Read Across New Mexico

It is more important than ever to connect kids to stories that offer different perspectives and help them to see how others think and feel.

“When we hear each other’s stories, our understanding of each other grows.” - Marley Dias, Read Across America Ambassador

The Read Across New Mexico program is a collaboration between NEA-NM, the NM Public Education Department, and the NM Early Childhood Education and Care Department aiming to promote the NEA Read Across America theme of “Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers” by highlighting the importance of diverse, linguistically and culturally responsive books and literacy activities for young students in early childhood education (ECE) programs across New Mexico.

This program also aims to expand and improve our state’s ECE programs by showcasing the positive impact of ECE programs on young students, their families, and their communities.

This year’s featured book is Fry Bread, written by Kevin Noble Maillard and illustrated by Juana Martinez-Neal. Get your own copy today! book offered at no cost for members; $5 for non members (includes tax).
