We urge the New Mexico Legislature to take immediate action to address the unsustainable cost of health insurance for educators in K–12 schools and public colleges and universities. While educators serve our students and communities, they are required to pay up to 40% of their health insurance premiums—double the share paid by other public employees under the state's 80/20 split. Access to affordable healthcare is essential to educator well-being, workforce stability, and the strength of New Mexico's education system. We call on the Legislature to fund an equitable 80/20 premium split for educators and make this issue a priority in the 2026 legislative session.
